Can you tell me more about how your crane service business got started?

We are a husband and wife team that started out in May 2010 with 1 service truck and the kitchen table for an office.  We have since grown our fleet to 2 service trucks and a flat bed, and have 2 field service techs and 2 office personel.  We now have a shop for those of our customers that would prefer to bring it to us.  We are excited about how God has helped our business to grow and we hope we can be of service to you.

Do you offer services beyond crane inspection and repair?

Yes! We are a full service field service mobile crane, air compressor, electrical and hydraulic repair company.  We specialize in complicated repairs. Our technicians are certified and well experienced in DC electrical, truck mounted cranes, piston and screw air compressors, hydraulic valve banks and cylinders (including obsoleted ) that are sticking, leaking, or not performing as needed. These are never a problem for us to repair. We have many parts in stock and have many parts venders for quick response. We line bore and do bushing pin fits as well as weld on booms with permissions from manufacturers. We rebuild booms, air compressors, and gear boxes with some units in stock. We have a variety of mechanic truck cranes and hydraulic air compressors rebuilt in stock. We also provide maintenance programs for your equipment.

What regulations apply to cranes that I should be aware of?

The Crane Man Inc is your one stop shop for crane expertise. We are compliant and knowledgeable not only about crane inspection and crane repair, but for regulations as well. One thing customers often wonder is: Does assembling and disassembling, inspection or testing cranes count as construction activities? What are the OSHA comliance rules I should be aware of?

Answer from OSHA and Bode Technical Services: Once a crane/derrick or its components are used in construction activities, this use—including assembly/disassembly, inspection and testing of the crane/derrick—is regulated by the Cranes and Derricks in Construction standard. Section 1926.1400 establishes the scope of the standard as follows: “This standard applies to power-operated equipment, when used in construction, that can hoist, lower and horizontally move a suspended load…” [emphasis added]. Employers using cranes or derricks to perform non-construction activities are not covered by the Cranes and Derricks in Construction standard. In general, when an employee performs activities covered by the Cranes and Derricks in Construction standard at a construction worksite, such as assembly/disassembly, inspection, hoisting loads, or traveling from place to place on the worksite, the performance of these activities is considered construction. As a result, the employer must comply with the requirements of this standard, as well as any other applicable construction standards, because the activity in question occurs on a construction site and is expediting work that is integral to the construction process.
